Why We Love Rakuten Rebates (Earn $20 for Signing Up)

May 7, 2020 by Suzanne

This Rakuten rebates review for 2021 will explain exactly how Rakuten works and how you earn cash back with this app.

Did you know that you can save money by shopping with Rakuten?  I can’t believe how long it took me to find out about them.

Formerly known as Ebates, Rakuten is an amazing cash back website and great for those who are trying to save more money.

When you are on a tight budget, every little bit of savings can really count.  That’s why I always do my shopping through their website to maximize my savings.

Is Rakuten a scam?

Rakuten is legit!  They have a B rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB),* with many great reviews.

I personally have received money from Rakuten for over two years now.

How do Rakuten rebates work?

Every time you shop through their website, you will get cash back on your purchase.  The % you will get back will be listed on their website.

Then Rakuten will send a payment to your Paypal account every 3 months.

They offer thousands of great stores with cash back deals such as popular sites like Amazon, Walmart, Macy’s, Target, eBay, Kohl’s, Sam’s Club, hotels.com, and many more!

You just go to their website and do your shopping by clicking on the store name that you want to make a purchase from.  You can even use your coupon and promo codes when shopping through their website so you get maximum savings!

Alternatively, you can download the extension for your browser, and do your usual online shopping at your favorite stores.

If that store has a coupon or cash back offer from Rakuten, it will pop up to alert you and you can click on it to shop through their website.

Below you can see that if you make a purchase at Walmart.com, you will get 5% cash back on your qualifying purchases.

Below you can see where I’m looking to make a purchase from Walmart.  The Rakuten browser button started to blink and I clicked on it.

Now it tells me that the Harry Potter Lego set that I would like to purchase will earn me up to 5% cash back.  I click on activate and then continue to make my purchase, as usual.

Rakuten is especially helpful for large, expensive purchases, or around the holidays.  I use it for all of my online shopping but really get the most bang for my buck at Christmas time.

I usually purchase most of my Christmas gifts through Amazon Prime, and occasionally through other stores.  I always check to see if Rakuten has cash back on those purchases before I go to the physical location.

You can always place an order with stores like Kohl’s through the website, then go pick up your items.  When I have so many Christmas presents to purchase, I really love that I can earn some of my money back.

It is such an expensive time of the year that every bit of savings really helps.

Some people wonder if it is a scam but here are some of the purchases I made when I first signed up.

I also want to mention that when I made the purchases below, Rakuten also automatically added a coupon to my bill giving me a discount on my purchases on top of the cash back pictured below!

They search the web for the best promo code and will apply it to your bill before you checkout.

Rakuten is something so simple to use to save money AND get money back, that you can’t miss out on it.  I can’t speak highly enough of it.

If you want to try the free program, you can check it out through my Rakuten referral link here.

Hoes Rakuten’s referral program work?

Rakuten has a referral program which means that you can also earn money by referring your friends and family to use Rakuten.

This means if you tell your friends about how great Rakuten is and they decide to sign up – you will earn even more cash back.

For example, if you sign up for Rakuten using my link – I will earn $20, and you will earn $20.  You must make a purchase of $25 in order to receive the bonus cash back.

It’s that easy and amazing!

I hope that this review of the Rakuten rebates program helps you decide if you want to earn cash back (for free) with their app and website.
