If you are trying to get your online classroom setup, you have come to the right place. You may be a recently hired online English teacher, or maybe you are a public school teacher who is now required to teach virtually from home. Either way, setting up your online classroom doesn’t have to be hard.
In the online teaching world, there are a few items that are necessary to have a good classroom environment and to give high quality lessons for your students.
It is important to have a fun and beautiful background. If you teach English online, then part of the parent’s reviews will relate to your classroom environment. You do not want to have a plain wall for your background in your classroom.
It is also important to have high quality equipment for your lessons. You want to make sure you have the best equipment and internet to give your students a good experience.
Here are some commonly needed items for your online classroom setup.
The most important thing you will need besides your computer is a pair of good quality headphones. I have used these for over a year with no issues.
I strongly recommend headphones that are noise cancelling and that have a mute button. (Especially if you have kids at home.) You will also need a pair that has a microphone. (Headphones on Amazon)
Obviously, to become an online teacher you will need a laptop or an Ipad. I always use my laptop but some people prefer to use an Ipad, especially if they travel while teaching. Purchase a laptop or an Ipad.
If you are teaching English online, then you are required to decorate your classroom with an educational background. If you are a virtual teacher or teaching for Outschool, you may also be interested in decorating your classroom.
There are so many different ways to do this. You can pick up some fun seasonal decor from the Target dollar spot every few months to give your classroom a fresh look. You can also pick up educational posters at your local dollar store.
One of my favorite items in my online classroom setup is my world map. The one I use is pictured below.
I love having a map in my classroom and to alternate the rest of my decor according to the season we are in. There are many maps you can find on Amazon. This is the one I use (pictured below) and I absolutely love it. It also comes in handy if you travel a lot (which a lot of teachers do!) You scratch off each country after you have visited them, as a beautiful reflection of the places you have been.
I scratched off the entire map before I put it up in my classroom, and I absolutely love it.
You can also put up educational posters in your classroom. I have the following posters that include the alphabet, shapes, days of the week, and more for only $13. They have come in handy for my online classroom setup and my homeschool room. Pick this pack up of educational posters on Amazon.
I hope this list helps you get started with your online classroom setup. What other items do you have in your classroom?
